In the early 90s, sons and daughters of Umuaka residing in Northern California,
(San Francisco bay area), came together and formed an organization. This first unique gathering took place in Oakland California, at the home of Chief (Engr.) Diala Ikeme, Udo 1 of Umuaka. As more Umuaka sons and daughters joined, the love and the opportunity to see each other and their families galvanized everyone to come to Umuaka meetings.
After the second inaugural general meeting held at Dr. Johnny Mez’s (Attraction) home in Sacramento, CA, the association was given a name; Association of Umuaka People in Northern California. (AUPNC). Chief Engr. Diala Ikeme was elected the first President of the association. His reign was followed by Ikenna Amuzie, who handed over the Presidency to Dr. Johnny Mez. At one point the Association split in to two organizations from ideological difference resulting from a scheduled Oghu dance. During the separation each group contributed immensely to the welfare of Umuaka people at home. Under the leadership of Ikenna Amuzie’s presidency, an ambulance was purchased and donated to Umuaka General Hospital. Dr. Johnny Mez became the national President of UDU
and was able to ensure that Umuaka people in North America remains strong and under one entity without a division. A national convention was also hosted in Northern California with the proceeds going to the welfare of the national body (UDU). With the Election of Chief (Engr.) Goddy Ikeme (Anyadike 1 of Umuaka), and Chief Keonye Ahamefule (Aku shi Nanna 1 of Umuaka), these two Presidents worked fastidiously for the reunification of the two groups. The work and effort put in the reunification could not be overemphasized. And it was a success. The two Leaders formed a four-man reconciliation committee, to negotiate for peace and reunification. Chief Sabby Agwumezie (Okaa Ome 1 of Umuaka), Eze Ikeme, Ikenna Amuzie and Chief Goddy Ikeme accepted and negotiated the peaceful and acceptable terms for the two groups to come together without court orders or outside mediators. After the reunification of the organization with the strong support of the ladies, a joint reunification meeting was held and Chief Sabby Agwumezie and Mazi Chris Opara were elected President and Vice President respectively. Chief Sabby Agwumezie at the end of his term conducted an election which ushered in the current Presidency of Eze Ikeme and his executives, whose transformative leadership goals are necessary changes for the strength and growth of the association. The Umuaka Community Men's Groups in the Tri-state Area was formed with a vision to unify and empower members of the Umuaka community residing in this region. The founding of this association can be attributed to the dedication and foresight of Mr. Clement Onyema, who graciously hosted the inaugural meeting at his residence.

At its inception, the association welcomed esteemed founding members such as Sir Charles Uche Egeolu, Nze Vitalis Onyema, late Engr Vitalis Onyema, Sir Virgilus Mbah, Fr. Vincent Mhah, Chief B C Dire, Chief Michael Okay Amuzie, and many others. These individuals brought together their skills, leadership, and passion for the betterment of our community.

The presidency of the association has been a continual source of inspiration and guidance, with the leadership passing through capable hands over the years. Mr. Clement Onyema led as the founding president, followed by Chief Michael Okay Amuzie, Mr. John Onyema, Sir Charles Uche Egeolu, Sir Chidi Durugo, and our current president, Hon. Anthony Onyemepu. Each president has contributed their unique touch to the growth and success of our association.

The Umuaka Community Men's Groups have achieved numerous milestones that have positively impacted both our community and the larger society. Some of the notable accomplishments include the establishment of a sister city relationship between Umuaka and the city of Newark, the launch of our association website for better communication and outreach, the introduction of annual Thanksgiving and picnic gatherings to foster camaraderie, the donation of a giant lister to the Umuaka Community Hospital for improved healthcare services, and the sponsorship of Akaeberi traditional rulers to the United States for the sister city proclamation.

Furthermore, our association has upheld our rich cultural heritage through initiatives like the bi-annual Oghu cultural dance, which serves to promote and preserve our Umuaka traditions. In addition to cultural preservation, the association has also prioritized the welfare and security of its members by securing life insurance policies, ensuring the well-being of our community members in times of need.

The association has truly heartening to witness the dedication and unity displayed by the members of the Umuaka Community Men's Groups in the Tri-state Area. Their combined efforts have not only strengthened the bond within our community but have also created a positive impact on the lives of those around us. As we continue on this journey of unity and progress, I am confident that our association will achieve even greater heights of success and recognition.

UDU Tri-state chapter encourages each member to remain actively engaged and committed to the values and goals of the association. Together, members have continued to make a difference and leave a lasting legacy for generations to come. Most importantly, the association has shown unwavering support and dedication to the national body and Akaebeiri community at large.
